Before any racing vehicle  can turn a wheel on the course, before any  driver can climb aboard, they have to go through Tech Inspection. This group of people go over each and every vehicle making sure that it conforms precisely to the standards and rules published by the national office regarding safety and class.

Once everyone is teched this group switches over to handle other, various, duties that occur such as  post race impound, where the the  cars, hot off the track, must pass  an after race tech inspection and  waiting period before being declared legally finished. They also perform post accident inspection to determine if the racer will be allowed to run again or must extensive repairs be done first. A record of all activities are kept and also noted in the race car's log book.

All of this comes under the banner of Scrutineering. And it's as close as a gearhead wannabe can get to the machine exotica of motorsports competition without being a team mechanic.

If you enjoy the tactile, hands on, touchy feely part of motorsports, or wish that you could, contact the chief of scrutineering with the info request below.
