A Few Points...Not everybody who thinks they're the greatest driver since Barney Oldfield, Tazio Neuvolari, or Bruce McLaren, is. You may be, but we don't know that. So we want to see if you are truly great, just achieving greatness, or merely having a passing brush with greatness. And we do this by having you attend our regional driving school. It's not a 'teach you how to drive a racecar' school like some of the other professional schools.
In order to get on track, in a school or a race, you need to be a member of our club, the SCCA, and have all of the gear to keep both you and us safe. You can request more information on both of these directly from us here on the web page.
You would be amazed at how many people want to know "Where do they pick up their racecar?" We don't supply the race cars in the club, we supply the races. But there are many folks in the club that have made a good business out of supplying cars for rent or sale at relatively reasonable prices.
Which is a good time to talk about the kinds of competition you'll find here in NYR. The National office of club racing, through input of the membership, has established 23 classes of National racing competition that make up the larger part of a racing event. They are, in order of lesser performance, Showroom Stock--5 classes; Production--5 classes; Spec and Sports Racer; Formula Vee; Formula 500; GT--5 classes; and Formula--5 classes. Add into this mix some restricted regional only classes like Improved Touring (IT) 5 classes and Club Formula Ford and you can see there is no shortage of competition on any given race weekend.
NYR has a long history in holding events at Bridgehampton Race Circuit on the eastern end of Long Island. But the Bridge hasn't held an event for a few seasons due to development encroachment, noise and zoning laws. We are hopeful that a new, exciting, full service racing facility at the Grumman-Navy test facility on Long Island will be developed and sports car racing can return to the metro New York area. In the mean time NYR holds a number of races at near by Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. So. You've learned what you have to do. You've learned that you have to get stuff. And you've learned some of the places to do your thing. Now all you have to do to get started is fill out the request for for more information and folks will get in contact with you to help you along. It's painless and you've already taken the biggest step by logging onto this site. Come on, let's go racing. |
