CLICK HERE TO READ THE LATEST NYR F&C NEWS BULLETIN FROM BRIAN BIELANSKI Flagging and Communications is the front line of worker visibility in our club. Any circuit race that you see on television or live, or in a magazine has a 90% chance that you will see, at some point, course workers going about their job of driver support via the use of flags, hand signals, fire fighting and rescue equipment, and course communication, either by land line or radio.
In terms of danger...flaggers are right up there on the razor's edge. In terms of excitement...If the government knew about this adrenaline rush they'd make it illegal. In terms of enjoyment...It's the best seat in the house. Flaggers know stuff when it happens, how it happens, why it happens, and to whom it happened to long before most announcers, teams, and drivers. Flaggers must be licensed. It's a way to show your experience. Licenses are recommended by the chief of F&C and issued from the national office. A flagger with a national license can call ahead and work just about any SCCA race in the country, and some abroad as well. It is an association that is earned.
